PowerPoint “List-Slides” Feature

Let’s say you are in a PowerPoint presentation and you decide that you want to quickly navigate to a different visual by choosing from a list of all the slides in your presentation. There is a simple shortcut to do this!

During any slide show on a PC, the Ctrl+S action (holding down the Control key while pressing the letter S) will bring up a list of all of your slides. The list below is from a sample, 8-slide, presentation:ppt-popup-slide-box

In this example, except for slides 6 and 8, the words appearing next to the slide numbers represent the actual text typed into the TITLE area on the sample slides. Your own text will appear, depending on whether you use a slide layout that contains a Title placeholder. If you used a blank layout or did not use the title placeholder, the name will simply appear as “Slide #”, where # is the actual slide number, as noted in slides 6 and 8 on this sample list.

When you bring up the list, the current slide is highlighted (slide 3, in this example). If you want to jump to a specific image, you can scroll the complete list to find the slide you need. Highlight the slide and then click the Go To button to display the selected visual.

The advantage of this list is that you can also see any hidden slides, which are shown on the list with the slide number enclosed in parentheses.

The key to making this list useful is to be able to identify the slide using some context or meaningful description; that is, by using the title placeholder. If every slide-name on your list just says “Slide”, then you would have to know all the slides by number. If that is the case, then use the ENTER-ENTER trick to go directly to the slide, without even displaying the list.
